¹ This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;² Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.³ And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and called his name Seth:⁴ And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:⁵ And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died.⁶ And Seth lived an hundred and five years, and begat Enos:⁷ And Seth lived after he begat Enos eight hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters:⁸ And all the days of Seth were nine hundred and twelve years: and he died.⁹ And Enos lived ninety years, and begat Cainan:¹⁰ And Enos lived after he begat Cainan eight hundred and fifteen years, and begat sons and daughters:¹¹ And all the days of Enos were nine hundred and five years: and he died.¹² And Cainan lived seventy years and begat Mahalaleel:¹³ And Cainan lived after he begat Mahalaleel eight hundred and forty years, and begat sons and daughters:¹⁴ And all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years: and he died.¹⁵ And Mahalaleel lived sixty and five years, and begat Jared:¹⁶ And Mahalaleel lived after he begat Jared eight hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters:¹⁷ And all the days of Mahalaleel were eight hundred ninety and five years: and he died.¹⁸ And Jared lived an hundred sixty and two years, and he begat Enoch:¹⁹ And Jared lived after he begat Enoch eight hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:²⁰ And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years: and he died.²¹ And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah:²² And Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years, and begat sons and daughters:²³ And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years:²⁴ And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.²⁵ And Methuselah lived an hundred eighty and seven years, and begat Lamech.²⁶ And Methuselah lived after he begat Lamech seven hundred eighty and two years, and begat sons and daughters:²⁷ And all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred sixty and nine years: and he died.²⁸ And Lamech lived an hundred eighty and two years, and begat a son:²⁹ And he called his name Noah, saying, This same shall comfort us concerning our work and toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD hath cursed.³⁰ And Lamech lived after he begat Noah five hundred ninety and five years, and begat sons and daughters:³¹ And all the days of Lamech were seven hundred seventy and seven years: and he died.³² And Noah was five hundred years old: and Noah begat Shem, Ham, and Japheth.

¹ And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,² That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.³ And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.⁴ There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.⁵ And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.⁶ And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.⁷ And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.⁸ But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.⁹ These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.¹⁰ And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.¹¹ The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.¹² And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.¹³ And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.¹⁴ Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.¹⁵ And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits.¹⁶ A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it.¹⁷ And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.¹⁸ But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.¹⁹ And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.²⁰ Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.²¹ And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.²² Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.

¹ O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.² Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.³ My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?⁴ Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake.⁵ For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?⁶ I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.⁷ Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.⁸ Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.⁹ The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.¹⁰ Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.

¹ O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:² Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.³ O LORD my God, If I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;⁴ If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)⁵ Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.⁶ Arise, O LORD, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded.⁷ So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high.⁸ The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me.⁹ Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.¹⁰ My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.¹¹ God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.¹² If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.¹³ He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.¹⁴ Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.¹⁵ He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.¹⁶ His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.¹⁷ I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.

¹ O LORD, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.² Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.³ When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;⁴ What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?⁵ For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.⁶ Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:⁷ All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;⁸ The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.⁹ O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!

¹ And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:² And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,³ Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.⁴ Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.⁵ Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.⁶ Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.⁷ Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.¹⁰ Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.¹¹ Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.¹² Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.¹³ Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.¹⁴ Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.¹⁵ Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.¹⁶ Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.¹⁷ Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.¹⁸ For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.¹⁹ Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.²⁰ For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.²¹ Ye have heard that it was said of them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:²² But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.²³ Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee;²⁴ Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.²⁵ Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison.²⁶ Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing.²⁷ Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:²⁸ But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.²⁹ And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.³⁰ And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.³¹ It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement:³² But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery.³³ Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:³⁴ But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:³⁵ Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.³⁶ Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.³⁷ But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.³⁸ Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:³⁹ But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.⁴⁰ And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.⁴¹ And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.⁴² Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.⁴³ Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.⁴⁴ But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;⁴⁵ That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.⁴⁶ For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?⁴⁷ And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?⁴⁸ Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
