¹ So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression.² Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, the Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the Nethinims.³ And in Jerusalem dwelt of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim, and Manasseh;⁴ Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Pharez the son of Judah.⁵ And of the Shilonites; Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons.⁶ And of the sons of Zerah; Jeuel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety.⁷ And of the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hasenuah,⁸ And Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, and Elah the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephathiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah;⁹ And their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty and six. All these men were chief of the fathers in the house of their fathers.¹⁰ And of the priests; Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, and Jachin,¹¹ And Azariah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the ruler of the house of God;¹² And Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasiai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer;¹³ And their brethren, heads of the house of their fathers, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.¹⁴ And of the Levites; Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari;¹⁵ And Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph;¹⁶ And Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites.¹⁷ And the porters were, Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren: Shallum was the chief;¹⁸ Who hitherto waited in the king's gate eastward: they were porters in the companies of the children of Levi.¹⁹ And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their fathers, being over the host of the LORD, were keepers of the entry.²⁰ And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the LORD was with him.²¹ And Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.²² All these which were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by their genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their set office.²³ So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of the LORD, namely, the house of the tabernacle, by wards.²⁴ In four quarters were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south.²⁵ And their brethren, which were in their villages, were to come after seven days from time to time with them.²⁶ For these Levites, the four chief porters, were in their set office, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.²⁷ And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge was upon them, and the opening thereof every morning pertained to them.²⁸ And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale.²⁹ Some of them also were appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices.³⁰ And some of the sons of the priests made the ointment of the spices.³¹ And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the set office over the things that were made in the pans.³² And other of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the shewbread, to prepare it every sabbath.³³ And these are the singers, chief of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free: for they were employed in that work day and night.³⁴ These chief fathers of the Levites were chief throughout their generations; these dwelt at Jerusalem.³⁵ And in Gibeon dwelt the father of Gibeon, Jehiel, whose wife's name was Maachah:³⁶ And his firstborn son Abdon, then Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab.³⁷ And Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth.³⁸ And Mikloth begat Shimeam. And they also dwelt with their brethren at Jerusalem, over against their brethren.³⁹ And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal.⁴⁰ And the son of Jonathan was Meribbaal: and Meribbaal begat Micah.⁴¹ And the sons of Micah were, Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea, and Ahaz.⁴² And Ahaz begat Jarah; and Jarah begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri begat Moza;⁴³ And Moza begat Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.⁴⁴ And Azel had six sons, whose names are these, Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan: these were the sons of Azel.

¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,² Now, thou son of man, wilt thou judge, wilt thou judge the bloody city? yea, thou shalt shew her all her abominations.³ Then say thou, Thus saith the Lord GOD, The city sheddeth blood in the midst of it, that her time may come, and maketh idols against herself to defile herself.⁴ Thou art become guilty in thy blood that thou hast shed; and hast defiled thyself in thine idols which thou hast made; and thou hast caused thy days to draw near, and art come even unto thy years: therefore have I made thee a reproach unto the heathen, and a mocking to all countries.⁵ Those that be near, and those that be far from thee, shall mock thee, which art infamous and much vexed.⁶ Behold, the princes of Israel, every one were in thee to their power to shed blood.⁷ In thee have they set light by father and mother: in the midst of thee have they dealt by oppression with the stranger: in thee have they vexed the fatherless and the widow.⁸ Thou hast despised mine holy things, and hast profaned my sabbaths.⁹ In thee are men that carry tales to shed blood: and in thee they eat upon the mountains: in the midst of thee they commit lewdness.¹⁰ In thee have they discovered their fathers' nakedness: in thee have they humbled her that was set apart for pollution.¹¹ And one hath committed abomination with his neighbour's wife; and another hath lewdly defiled his daughter in law; and another in thee hath humbled his sister, his father's daughter.¹² In thee have they taken gifts to shed blood; thou hast taken usury and increase, and thou hast greedily gained of thy neighbours by extortion, and hast forgotten me, saith the Lord GOD.¹³ Behold, therefore I have smitten mine hand at thy dishonest gain which thou hast made, and at thy blood which hath been in the midst of thee.¹⁴ Can thine heart endure, or can thine hands be strong, in the days that I shall deal with thee? I the LORD have spoken it, and will do it.¹⁵ And I will scatter thee among the heathen, and disperse thee in the countries, and will consume thy filthiness out of thee.¹⁶ And thou shalt take thine inheritance in thyself in the sight of the heathen, and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.¹⁷ And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,¹⁸ Son of man, the house of Israel is to me become dross: all they are brass, and tin, and iron, and lead, in the midst of the furnace; they are even the dross of silver.¹⁹ Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye are all become dross, behold, therefore I will gather you into the midst of Jerusalem.²⁰ As they gather silver, and brass, and iron, and lead, and tin, into the midst of the furnace, to blow the fire upon it, to melt it; so will I gather you in mine anger and in my fury, and I will leave you there, and melt you.²¹ Yea, I will gather you, and blow upon you in the fire of my wrath, and ye shall be melted in the midst therof.²² As silver is melted in the midst of the furnace, so shall ye be melted in the midst thereof; and ye shall know that I the LORD have poured out my fury upon you.²³ And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,²⁴ Son of man, say unto her, Thou art the land that is not cleansed, nor rained upon in the day of indignation.²⁵ There is a conspiracy of her prophets in the midst thereof, like a roaring lion ravening the prey; they have devoured souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof.²⁶ Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.²⁷ Her princes in the midst thereof are like wolves ravening the prey, to shed blood, and to destroy souls, to get dishonest gain.²⁸ And her prophets have daubed them with untempered morter, seeing vanity, and divining lies unto them, saying, Thus saith the Lord GOD, when the LORD hath not spoken.²⁹ The people of the land have used oppression, and exercised robbery, and have vexed the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.³⁰ And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none.³¹ Therefore have I poured out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD.

¹ And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.² And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.³ And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.⁴ And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.⁵ And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.⁶ And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.⁷ And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.⁸ And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.⁹ And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.¹⁰ For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.¹¹ And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.¹² He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.¹³ And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.¹⁴ But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.¹⁵ And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.¹⁶ Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.¹⁷ And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.¹⁸ And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.¹⁹ And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.²⁰ And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:²¹ For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.²² And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:²³ Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?²⁴ And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.²⁵ (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)²⁶ For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.²⁷ But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.²⁸ And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.²⁹ And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,³⁰ Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.³¹ And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.³² And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.³³ And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?³⁴ And they said, The Lord hath need of him.³⁵ And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.³⁶ And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.³⁷ And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;³⁸ Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.³⁹ And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.⁴⁰ And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.⁴¹ And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,⁴² Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.⁴³ For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,⁴⁴ And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.⁴⁵ And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;⁴⁶ Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.⁴⁷ And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,⁴⁸ And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.
