¹ And David made him houses in the city of David, and prepared a place for the ark of God, and pitched for it a tent.² Then David said, None ought to carry the ark of God but the Levites: for them hath the LORD chosen to carry the ark of God, and to minister unto him for ever.³ And David gathered all Israel together to Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the LORD unto his place, which he had prepared for it.⁴ And David assembled the children of Aaron, and the Levites:⁵ Of the sons of Kohath; Uriel the chief, and his brethren an hundred and twenty:⁶ Of the sons of Merari; Asaiah the chief, and his brethren two hundred and twenty:⁷ Of the sons of Gershom; Joel the chief and his brethren an hundred and thirty:⁸ Of the sons of Elizaphan; Shemaiah the chief, and his brethren two hundred:⁹ Of the sons of Hebron; Eliel the chief, and his brethren fourscore:¹⁰ Of the sons of Uzziel; Amminadab the chief, and his brethren an hundred and twelve.¹¹ And David called for Zadok and Abiathar the priests, and for the Levites, for Uriel, Asaiah, and Joel, Shemaiah, and Eliel, and Amminadab,¹² And said unto them, Ye are the chief of the fathers of the Levites: sanctify yourselves, both ye and your brethren, that ye may bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel unto the place that I have prepared for it.¹³ For because ye did it not at the first, the LORD our God made a breach upon us, for that we sought him not after the due order.¹⁴ So the priests and the Levites sanctified themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD God of Israel.¹⁵ And the children of the Levites bare the ark of God upon their shoulders with the staves thereon, as Moses commanded according to the word of the LORD.¹⁶ And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy.¹⁷ So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;¹⁸ And with them their brethren of the second degree, Zechariah, Ben, and Jaaziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, Eliab, and Benaiah, and Maaseiah, and Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, the porters.¹⁹ So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed to sound with cymbals of brass;²⁰ And Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with psalteries on Alamoth;²¹ And Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps on the Sheminith to excel.²² And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was for song: he instructed about the song, because he was skilful.²³ And Berechiah and Elkanah were doorkeepers for the ark.²⁴ And Shebaniah, and Jehoshaphat, and Nethaneel, and Amasai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, did blow with the trumpets before the ark of God: and Obededom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the ark.²⁵ So David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the house of Obededom with joy.²⁶ And it came to pass, when God helped the Levites that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that they offered seven bullocks and seven rams.²⁷ And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bare the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers: David also had upon him an ephod of linen.²⁸ Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps.²⁹ And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal, the daughter of Saul looking out at a window saw king David dancing and playing: and she despised him in her heart.

¹ The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,² Now, thou son of man, take up a lamentation for Tyrus;³ And say unto Tyrus, O thou that art situate at the entry of the sea, which art a merchant of the people for many isles, Thus saith the Lord GOD; O Tyrus, thou hast said, I am of perfect beauty.⁴ Thy borders are in the midst of the seas, thy builders have perfected thy beauty.⁵ They have made all thy ship boards of fir trees of Senir: they have taken cedars from Lebanon to make masts for thee.⁶ Of the oaks of Bashan have they made thine oars; the company of the Ashurites have made thy benches of ivory, brought out of the isles of Chittim.⁷ Fine linen with broidered work from Egypt was that which thou spreadest forth to be thy sail; blue and purple from the isles of Elishah was that which covered thee.⁸ The inhabitants of Zidon and Arvad were thy mariners: thy wise men, O Tyrus, that were in thee, were thy pilots.⁹ The ancients of Gebal and the wise men thereof were in thee thy calkers: all the ships of the sea with their mariners were in thee to occupy thy merchandise.¹⁰ They of Persia and of Lud and of Phut were in thine army, thy men of war: they hanged the shield and helmet in thee; they set forth thy comeliness.¹¹ The men of Arvad with thine army were upon thy walls round about, and the Gammadims were in thy towers: they hanged their shields upon thy walls round about; they have made thy beauty perfect.¹² Tarshish was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of all kind of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded in thy fairs.¹³ Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were thy merchants: they traded the persons of men and vessels of brass in thy market.¹⁴ They of the house of Togarmah traded in thy fairs with horses and horsemen and mules.¹⁵ The men of Dedan were thy merchants; many isles were the merchandise of thine hand: they brought thee for a present horns of ivory and ebony.¹⁶ Syria was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of the wares of thy making: they occupied in thy fairs with emeralds, purple, and broidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and agate.¹⁷ Judah, and the land of Israel, they were thy merchants: they traded in thy market wheat of Minnith, and Pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm.¹⁸ Damascus was thy merchant in the multitude of the wares of thy making, for the multitude of all riches; in the wine of Helbon, and white wool.¹⁹ Dan also and Javan going to and fro occupied in thy fairs: bright iron, cassia, and calamus, were in thy market.²⁰ Dedan was thy merchant in precious clothes for chariots.²¹ Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they occupied with thee in lambs, and rams, and goats: in these were they thy merchants.²² The merchants of Sheba and Raamah, they were thy merchants: they occupied in thy fairs with chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold.²³ Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Asshur, and Chilmad, were thy merchants.²⁴ These were thy merchants in all sorts of things, in blue clothes, and broidered work, and in chests of rich apparel, bound with cords, and made of cedar, among thy merchandise.²⁵ The ships of Tarshish did sing of thee in thy market: and thou wast replenished, and made very glorious in the midst of the seas.²⁶ Thy rowers have brought thee into great waters: the east wind hath broken thee in the midst of the seas.²⁷ Thy riches, and thy fairs, thy merchandise, thy mariners, and thy pilots, thy calkers, and the occupiers of thy merchandise, and all thy men of war, that are in thee, and in all thy company which is in the midst of thee, shall fall into the midst of the seas in the day of thy ruin.²⁸ The suburbs shall shake at the sound of the cry of thy pilots.²⁹ And all that handle the oar, the mariners, and all the pilots of the sea, shall come down from their ships, they shall stand upon the land;³⁰ And shall cause their voice to be heard against thee, and shall cry bitterly, and shall cast up dust upon their heads, they shall wallow themselves in the ashes:³¹ And they shall make themselves utterly bald for thee, and gird them with sackcloth, and they shall weep for thee with bitterness of heart and bitter wailing.³² And in their wailing they shall take up a lamentation for thee, and lament over thee, saying, What city is like Tyrus, like the destroyed in the midst of the sea?³³ When thy wares went forth out of the seas, thou filledst many people; thou didst enrich the kings of the earth with the multitude of thy riches and of thy merchandise.³⁴ In the time when thou shalt be broken by the seas in the depths of the waters thy merchandise and all thy company in the midst of thee shall fall.³⁵ All the inhabitants of the isles shall be astonished at thee, and their kings shall be sore afraid, they shall be troubled in their countenance.³⁶ The merchants among the people shall hiss at thee; thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt be any more.

¹ Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.² And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.³ And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.⁴ And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:⁵ And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?⁶ He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,⁷ Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.⁸ And they remembered his words,⁹ And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.¹⁰ It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.¹¹ And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.¹² Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.¹³ And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs.¹⁴ And they talked together of all these things which had happened.¹⁵ And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.¹⁶ But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.¹⁷ And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?¹⁸ And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass therein these days?¹⁹ And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:²⁰ And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.²¹ But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.²² Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre;²³ And when they found not his body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that he was alive.²⁴ And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but him they saw not.²⁵ Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:²⁶ Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?²⁷ And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.²⁸ And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.²⁹ But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.³⁰ And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.³¹ And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.³² And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?³³ And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them,³⁴ Saying, The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.³⁵ And they told what things were done in the way, and how he was known of them in breaking of bread.³⁶ And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.³⁷ But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.³⁸ And he said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts?³⁹ Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.⁴⁰ And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.⁴¹ And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, he said unto them, Have ye here any meat?⁴² And they gave him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb.⁴³ And he took it, and did eat before them.⁴⁴ And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.⁴⁵ Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,⁴⁶ And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:⁴⁷ And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.⁴⁸ And ye are witnesses of these things.⁴⁹ And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.⁵⁰ And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.⁵¹ And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.⁵² And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy:⁵³ And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God.
