¹ Now when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the LORD filled the house.² And the priests could not enter into the house of the LORD, because the glory of the LORD had filled the LORD's house.³ And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.⁴ Then the king and all the people offered sacrifices before the LORD.⁵ And king Solomon offered a sacrifice of twenty and two thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep: so the king and all the people dedicated the house of God.⁶ And the priests waited on their offices: the Levites also with instruments of musick of the LORD, which David the king had made to praise the LORD, because his mercy endureth for ever, when David praised by their ministry; and the priests sounded trumpets before them, and all Israel stood.⁷ Moreover Solomon hallowed the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings, because the brasen altar which Solomon had made was not able to receive the burnt offerings, and the meat offerings, and the fat.⁸ Also at the same time Solomon kept the feast seven days, and all Israel with him, a very great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt.⁹ And in the eighth day they made a solemn assembly: for they kept the dedication of the altar seven days, and the feast seven days.¹⁰ And on the three and twentieth day of the seventh month he sent the people away into their tents, glad and merry in heart for the goodness that the LORD had shewed unto David, and to Solomon, and to Israel his people.¹¹ Thus Solomon finished the house of the LORD, and the king's house: and all that came into Solomon's heart to make in the house of the LORD, and in his own house, he prosperously effected.¹² And the LORD appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice.¹³ If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people;¹⁴ If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.¹⁵ Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.¹⁶ For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually.¹⁷ And as for thee, if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, and do according to all that I have commanded thee, and shalt observe my statutes and my judgments;¹⁸ Then will I stablish the throne of thy kingdom, according as I have covenanted with David thy father, saying, There shall not fail thee a man to be ruler in Israel.¹⁹ But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them;²⁰ Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.²¹ And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house?²² And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.

¹ Then he brought me forth into the utter court, the way toward the north: and he brought me into the chamber that was over against the separate place, and which was before the building toward the north.² Before the length of an hundred cubits was the north door, and the breadth was fifty cubits.³ Over against the twenty cubits which were for the inner court, and over against the pavement which was for the utter court, was gallery against gallery in three stories.⁴ And before the chambers was a walk to ten cubits breadth inward, a way of one cubit; and their doors toward the north.⁵ Now the upper chambers were shorter: for the galleries were higher than these, than the lower, and than the middlemost of the building.⁶ For they were in three stories, but had not pillars as the pillars of the courts: therefore the building was straitened more than the lowest and the middlemost from the ground.⁷ And the wall that was without over against the chambers, toward the utter court on the forepart of the chambers, the length thereof was fifty cubits.⁸ For the length of the chambers that were in the utter court was fifty cubits: and, lo, before the temple were an hundred cubits.⁹ And from under these chambers was the entry on the east side, as one goeth into them from the utter court.¹⁰ The chambers were in the thickness of the wall of the court toward the east, over against the separate place, and over against the building.¹¹ And the way before them was like the appearance of the chambers which were toward the north, as long as they, and as broad as they: and all their goings out were both according to their fashions, and according to their doors.¹² And according to the doors of the chambers that were toward the south was a door in the head of the way, even the way directly before the wall toward the east, as one entereth into them.¹³ Then said he unto me, The north chambers and the south chambers, which are before the separate place, they be holy chambers, where the priests that approach unto the LORD shall eat the most holy things: there shall they lay the most holy things, and the meat offering, and the sin offering, and the trespass offering; for the place is holy.¹⁴ When the priests enter therein, then shall they not go out of the holy place into the utter court, but there they shall lay their garments wherein they minister; for they are holy; and shall put on other garments, and shall approach to those things which are for the people.¹⁵ Now when he had made an end of measuring the inner house, he brought me forth toward the gate whose prospect is toward the east, and measured it round about.¹⁶ He measured the east side with the measuring reed, five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed round about.¹⁷ He measured the north side, five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed round about.¹⁸ He measured the south side, five hundred reeds, with the measuring reed.¹⁹ He turned about to the west side, and measured five hundred reeds with the measuring reed.²⁰ He measured it by the four sides: it had a wall round about, five hundred reeds long, and five hundred broad, to make a separation between the sanctuary and the profane place.

¹ Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.² And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.³ And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,⁴ They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.⁵ Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?⁶ This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.⁷ So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.⁸ And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.⁹ And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.¹⁰ When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?¹¹ She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.¹² Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.¹³ The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.¹⁴ Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.¹⁵ Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.¹⁶ And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.¹⁷ It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.¹⁸ I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.¹⁹ Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.²⁰ These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.²¹ Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.²² Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.²³ And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.²⁴ I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.²⁵ Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.²⁶ I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.²⁷ They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.²⁸ Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.²⁹ And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.³⁰ As he spake these words, many believed on him.³¹ Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;³² And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.³³ They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?³⁴ Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.³⁵ And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.³⁶ If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.³⁷ I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.³⁸ I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.³⁹ They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.⁴⁰ But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.⁴¹ Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.⁴² Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.⁴³ Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.⁴⁴ Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.⁴⁵ And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.⁴⁶ Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?⁴⁷ He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.⁴⁸ Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?⁴⁹ Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.⁵⁰ And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.⁵¹ Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.⁵² Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.⁵³ Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?⁵⁴ Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:⁵⁵ Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.⁵⁷ Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?⁵⁸ Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.⁵⁹ Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
